The Kentucky Post and Times-Star was not the only source of news for Northern Kentuckians in Television news from the three local network affiliates covered the events of the day. WLW, WCPO, and WKRC all had robust news departments. The Greater Cincinnati media market was small yet innovative, utilizing advanced technologies of the day and employing local programming relevant to the region.
However, those old enough to remember dialing in to hear from anchors like Al Schottelkotte may have griped about the thin coverage of news from Northern Kentucky. And while Northern Kentuckians often felt ignored by local news broadcasts, there was one place in where viewers on the south side of the Ohio River felt at home – “The Bob Braun Show.”

For more than a quarter century, TV viewers throughout Greater Cincinnati, Northern Kentucky and the Midwest spent their weekday lunch hour with entertainer Bob Braun.
Braun, who died in , was a regular on Ruth Lyon’s top-rated “ Club” on WLWT-TV in the late s, then took over the show when she retired in and hosted it for 17 years.
The “Bob Braun Show” finale was broadcast 30 years ago – on Sept. 7, – ending a year tradition of a live noon variety show here.
Viewers tuned in to see Braun’s cast of singers and musicians as much as they enjoyed his celebrity guests. Even the commercials – all live – were entertaining because of the spontaneity. This resulted in a special bond with viewers on Channel 5 and stations in Dayton, Columbus, Indianapolis, Louisville, Lexington, Huntington, Charleston, Nashville and Knoxville.

He was best known for The Bob Braun Show, which he hosted from to The show was the top-rated live entertainment/information program in the Midwest. Originating at WLWT, the daily minute show was syndicated throughout the heartland of America, and featured a live band, singers, and special guests including Bob Hope, Lucille Ball, Johnny Carson, Paul Lynde, Red Skelton, Phyllis Diller, Tom Dressen, and Dick Clark. Politicians including Gerald Ford, Ronald Reagan, Jimmy Carter, George H. W. Bush, John Glenn, and Ted Kennedy were also guests.
The Bob Braun Show replaced the local television show, The Club. Its host, Ruth Lyons, retired in due to declining health. Braun had appeared regularly on the show since , and was frequently a fill-in host.
