Dr. Chika Unigwe is one of the few multi-lingual African authors who writes in English and Dutch languages. The winner of BBC Short Story Competition and a Commonwealth Short Story Competition award () clinched the Africa’s most prestigious literary prize with his book On Black Sisters’ Street on Same year, she was rated one of the ‘five top African writers’ by Zukiswa Warner in The Guardian. In , her Novel Night Dancers was in the final shortlist for the prize.
Dr. Unigwe set up Awele Creative Trust to support emerging and young writers in Nigeria. Born in Enugu in June 12, , Unigwe graduated from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka and The Katholic University of Leuven, Netherlands where she obtained her PHD.
Chika is also a teacher, coach and political activist. She currently teaches English literature at the Georgia College and State University, Georgia, USA.

Chika Unigwe was born in Enugu, Nigeria, and now lives in Turnhout, Belgium, with her husband and four children. She writes in English and Dutch.
In April she was selected for the Hay Festival's Africa39 list of 39 Sub-Saharan African writers aged under 40 with potential and talent to define future trends in African literature.

Unigwe holds a BA in English Language and Literature from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, and an MA from the Catholic University of Leuven, Belgium.
