An Inspiring Lady with a Golden Heart- Anuradha Koirala

 Crowned as CNN Hero and lovingly known as Dijjuall over the world, Anuradha Koirala is none-other than a SUPERHEROwhose contributions and remarkable actions have inspired every one of us to walk on her pathways. Born on 14th April to Colonel Pratap Singh Gurung and Laxmi Gurung, she is also known as the ‘Mother Teresa’ of Nepal. She accomplished her education at a hill station in Kalimpong, India. She is a National social activist and the founder of Maiti Nepal, a non-profit organization in Nepal that is actively involved in eliminating sex-trafficking and helping the victims to lead a new and glorious life.
 

Along with her organization Maiti Nepal, between and , she had rescued over women and girls and helped them for rehabilitation. Maiti Nepal not only provides a homely environment for those victims but also provides guidance to start a new life and connect them with their missing families. Anuradha Koirala was also the victim of domestic violence and she swore an oath that she would dedicate her entire life to rescuing the victims of violence and harsh realities. It is said that she first got inclined towards social work during her school days at St. Joseph Convent School, in Kalimpong, when she witnessed the work of the Mother and sisters of the school. She has always been inspired by the work and ideologies of Mother Teresa. So, even after teaching in different schools across Kathmandu for over 20 years, she finally listened to her greater calling and founded Maiti Nepal.

Maiti Nepal started with setting up a small home so that girls rescued from brothels could at least have a safe shelter to stay. Often sex trafficking survivors are disowned by their own families and friends. So, Maiti Nepal not only started rescuing trafficked children and girls, but it also started taking up the responsibility of rehabilitating them. Women can stay in the homes as long as they themselves are capable of living lives on their own.

Anuradha koirala is a social activist and the founder and director of Maiti Nepal. Born in 14 April to Colonel Pratap Singh Gurung and Laxmi Gurung, Anuradha Koirala was brought up in a family that regarded providing services for humankind as the best form of pious work. She studied in  Saint Joseph Convent School Kalimpong, India. At the school, sisters and mother further increased her devotion towards the social more than twenty years, she taught English at various reputed schools of Kathmandu. Mother Teresa was the biggest source of inspiration to initiate a mission for the betterment of humankind. Therefore , in Ms. Koirala founded Maiti Nepal with the aim of providing services for both children and women who have endured untold pain and suffering, often in silence. Children ,girls and women were being trafficked within and from Nepal for commercial sexual exploitaion. She set up Maiti Nepal with a vow to put an end to this heinous crime. On 25th November , she was declared as CNN hero of the year.
