Dr. Joshipura started his career with the Tata Administrative Services and then spent several years with Unilever Group of Companies, India in positions of increasing responsibilities in Sales, Marketing & Business Management. He was the President of Johnson & Johnson’s Pharmaceutical business and an Executive Director of the Company.
He had served as Senior Vice President – South Asia & Managing Director – India of Glaxo Smithkline (GSK) Pharmaceuticals Limited. He was Chairman, GSK – Bangladesh, a locally listed entity and Chairman, GSK – Sri Lanka. Also, he has been an Independent Director of L&T Technology Services Limited prior to joining L&T. He serves on the Board of Schneider Electric India Private Limited, as non-Executive Director, where he is also the Chair of their CSR & ESG committee.

Dr. Hasit Joshipura is a Graduate in Electrical Engineering from Victoria Jubilee Technical Institute (VJTI), Mumbai University and a Post Graduate Diploma in Management from the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) – Ahmedabad. Dr Hasit Joshipura currently serves as Advisor to Chairman & Managing Director of Larsen & Toubro group for the Innovation Fund, which invests in early-stage technology start-ups around the world in technologies of interest to L&T. He is also responsible for the incubation of Data Centre and Cloud business in L&T. He also served as Member of Executive Committee & Head of Corporate Centre where he was responsible for Corporate Strategy, Corporate Mergers & Acquisitions, Corporate Social Responsibility, Corporate Legal and other Corporate functions. He also led the transnational Electrical & Automation business, till its divestment to Schneider Electric Limited.

Joshipura’s appointment surprised many at L&T and even outside, given that most of his 33 years of work experience were in consumer related businesses. But three people in the know told ET that L&T chairman Naik handpicked him to assist him in strategic and corporate planning after working closely with him at IIM Ahmedabad (IIM-A).
Naik, as chairman of Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad, and Joshipura as a marketing faculty at IIM were part of the selection committee for the director’s post for IIM-A, which managed to lure Harvard professor Ashish Nandato join the Indian institute.
