Betty Neuman was born in Ohio, United States, on September 11, She lived in her hometown until graduating from high school in , when she moved to Dayton. There he worked in an aircraft industry that operated during the period of World War II in the United States.
It was in that she began her training as a nurse. She studied in a training program for three years and obtained her official nursing diploma in That same year she moved to Los Angeles, where she began working at Los Angeles General Hospital as a member of the nursing staff.

Betty Neuman was born and raised on a farm in rural Ohio and died in the early morning hours of May 28, near Seattle, Washington, where she had located several years ago to be near her family.
Betty Neuman is the nursology theorist who developed the Neuman Systems Model, a widely and internationally used conceptual model of nursology (see ). This model “focuses on the wellness of the client system in relation to environmental stressors and reactions to stressors. . . . [The] goal of nursing [is] to facilitate optimal wellness for the client through retention, attainment, or maintenance of client system stability” (Fawcett & DeSanto-Madeya, , p. ).
Betty received her diploma in nursology from a hospital in Akron, Ohio shortly after the end of World War II in , as part of the Cadet Nurse Corp program. She earned her baccalaureate degree in nursology with dual major in mental health and public health from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) in , and Master’s degree in nursology, also from UCLA, in In , she earned a PhD in clinical psychology from Pacific Western University.

- Born in Lowell, a village in Washington County, Ohio, United States, along the Muskingum River
- Obtained her Registered Nurse Diploma from the Peoples Hospital School of Nursing, in Akron Ohio. After that, she went to California where she worked in a hospital as a staff nurse, and eventually became the head nurse. She also explored other fields, and experienced being a school nurse, industrial nurse, and clinical instructor.
