Store danske naturvidenskabsfolk: Ole Rømer
Ole Rømer blev født i Århus. Han var student fra Aarhus Katedralskole og studerede astronomi på Københavns Universitet. Her fik han til opgave at korrigere Tycho Brahes observationer af stjernehimlen for menneskelige og instrumentelle fejl, så de kunne blive udgivet i bogform i Frankrig. Der var ikke råd til udgivelsen i Danmark. I den forbindelse blev Rømer assistent for en fransk astronom, tog med ham til Paris og blev ansat på byens observatorium.
Det var, mens Rømer opholdt sig i Paris, at han gjorde sin mest epokegørende opdagelse, fortæller Claus Thykier, medstifter og tidligere leder af Ole Rømer Museet, der i dag er en del af Kroppedal Museum. Det var Thykier, som i lokaliserede resterne af Rømers Observatorium Tusculanum i Vridsløsemagle.

Ole Christensen Rømer[1] (September 25, , Århus – September 19, , Copenhagen) was a Danish astronomer who demonstrated that light had a finite speed by measuring apparent changes in the periods of the revolution of Jupiter's moon, Io. Rømer also developed a temperature scale showing the temperature between two fixed points, namely the points at which water respectively boils and freezes. This was later adjusted by Daniel Gabriel Fahrenheit to the Fahrenheit scale in use today.

Rømer was born on September 25, , in Århus, Denmark, to a merchant and skipper, Christen Pedersen, and his wife, Anna Olufsdatter Storm, daughter of an alderman.
