Kapil was born in Amritsar. He did his school studies at Shri Ram Ashram Sen School. In addition, he did his graduation from Amritsar Hindu College. He began his career from the comedy show Hansde-Hansande –Raho aired on the H-1 channel. However, his major breakthrough was from the comedy show Great Indian Laughter Challenge.
He became the winner of the show in and he was awarded the trophy as well as he received 10 lakh prize money. The Great Indian Laughter Challenge reached Kapil Sharma in the houses of Indian people.
