Nigeria’s chief trade negotiator, Chiedu Osakwe has died
Ambassador Chiedu Osakwe, Nigeria’s chief trade negotiator and Director General of the Nigerian Office for Trade Negotiations, has died.
His death was announced in a tribute by President Buhari who described Osakwe as cerebral diplomat, scholar and administrator, has sent a message of condolence to his family, according to a statement by Garba Shehu, SSA Media.
According to the statement, Buhari noted with deep pain, that the passing of Amb. Osakwe has created a gulf in the Nigerian Office for Trade Negotiations, which he served as pioneer Director General, bringing invaluable experience, knowledge and skill in setting up and motivating the operations of the agency that was established in
President Buhari commiserated with all friends, relations and professional associates of the deceased, who served the country for many years as Foreign Service Officer, before joining the Word Trade Organisation, and later accepting to return to the country as a Trade Adviser to the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment, and Director General of NOTN.

Not too many times in our lives do we encounter remarkable people who see something greater in us than we see in ourselves. But we are all better off if we are privileged to meet such earthly angels, because such encounters are almost never or often rare.
It was early October , my first of what would be many official trips to the frigid city by the lake, Geneva. I was a young and still uneasy about what I had gotten myself into as a newly appointed Deputy Minister of Commerce and Industry. I was representing my boss and accompanied by our IP Advisor and our Chargé dAffaires. I was scheduled to deliver Liberias statement to the WIPO Assemblies, providing an update on the state of the implementation of the Intellectual Property Development Plan of Liberia. A series of meetings had been scheduled for me to meet key stakeholders that could support Liberias trade development agenda. One of such meetings was with the Director of Accessions Division Dr. Chiedu Osakwe and his team.

Chiedu Osakwe is WTO Director of the Accessions Division.
